The Aurora History Museum and Historic Sites is seeking a detail-oriented and organized collections intern to assist with on-site inventory. This internship provides a unique opportunity to engage in hands-on collections management through database work with Collections Management Software, PastPerfect, collections handling, and research.
The internship will consist of 240 work hours with a stipend of $5,000. Funding is graciously provided by the Aurora Museum Foundation. AHMHS staff cannot guarantee academic credit for this internship. Students must work with their college/university to ensure academic credit, if desired.
The ideal candidate will be enrolled in or recently graduated from a museum studies (or related field) graduate or undergraduate program and is seeking additional, hands-on experience.
Examples of Duties
- Identify objects housed in collections storage
- Update existing catalog records in PastPerfect
- Create new records in PastPerfect
- Tag objects with clear, concise, legible tags
- Basic condition reporting
- May perform other duties as assigned
General Qualifications:
- Enrolled in or recently graduated from a program in museum studies, public history, or similar field
- Experience working in museum collections required
- Experience with museum CMS, PastPerfect experience preferred
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, including spelling and typing accuracy
- Ability to follow policy and procedures/protocols
- Ability to take direction and work independently
Review Process:
AHMHS staff will review submissions using a scoring rubric. Top scoring candidates will be invited for an interview consisting of situational questions and detailed questions around their experience.
