Aurora Police Major Crime Unit Seeks Information about December Homicide

(March 11, 2026) – The Aurora Police Department Major Crime Homicide Unit is seeking the public’s help with information about a homicide that occurred in December 2025 in central Aurora.

About 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, Aurora police patrol officers responded to a report of a suspicious death in the 14000 block of East Jewell Avenue. The Major Crime Homicide Unit and the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office also responded to the scene.

Major Crime Homicide Unit detectives continued to investigate the incident as a suspicious death while the coroner’s office conducted its investigation. The coroner’s office recently completed its investigation and determined the manner of death is homicide.

The victim has since been positively identified as Matthew Coconis, 53, of Aurora. No arrests have been made and there is no suspect information at this time.

The investigation is active and ongoing. Detectives are asking anyone with any information to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720.913.STOP (7867). Tipsters can remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.
