In search of the next Poet Laureate

Be the next spoken word voice of Colorado's most culturally diverse city. The Poet Laureate advocates and promotes poetry and the love of literature within the city.

Poet Laureate Objectives

• Promote poetry within the city
• Raise awareness of the power of poetry and the spoken word
• Help students embrace the world of poetry
• Assist the citizens of Aurora in sharing their own poetry and stories
• Celebrate the diversity of Aurora in community outreach programs.
• Commemorate city and national events in poetic format ( MLK celebration, Veteran’s Day, Aurora’s Birthday and other possible city events)

Criteria

• All applicants must be at least 18 years of age and a current resident of the City of Aurora
• Submit a letter of intent: Include why you are interested, share your professional accomplishments and any community outreach activities you have participated in the past
• All applicants shall submit a sample of their published poetry and a resume that includes:
  • Letter of Intent
  • Community outreach in regards to writing and poetry
  • Professional work and portfolio (please limit to 10 published poems)
  • Professional references
  • Proof of residence
