Community Police Academy

2024 Community Police Academy graduates

We are now accepting applications for the 2026 Community Police Academy.

What is CPA?

The Community Police Academy is a twelve (12) week program designed to give the participants a working knowledge of the Aurora Police Department. It consists of a series of interactive classes held once a week, evenings from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. There is no cost to attend, and a background check will be conducted on all applicants. Most classes are held at the Aurora Center for Active Adults, 30 Del Mar Circle, Aurora CO 80011.


When is CPA?

The Community Police Academy will be held March 3 - May 19, 2026.


Who can participate in CPA?

Individuals who apply for the Community Police Academy must be at least 18 years old. Applicants are accepted from all metro-area cities, Aurora community members given first preference to attend classes.


Why join CPA?

Relational policing plays a vital role in reducing crime. In 1993, the Aurora Police Department created the Community Police Academy increase transparency, provide hands-on learning, and empower community members to help the agency reduce crime. After graduating from the academy, graduates will become partners with us in identifying problems and solutions to the crime issues that are affecting our community. What's more, graduates will gain knowledge they can implement to enhance the quality of life in their respective neighborhoods and throughout the community.

Goals

1. Provide community members with a unique opportunity to better understand how police work is conducted in their community.

2. Create nonenforcement spaces for adults to develop new relationships with officers while also learning how and why officers make the decisions they do while performing their duty.
