Residents invited to provide Aurora Housing Strategy feedback online as work to update plan moves forward

Work to update the Aurora Housing Strategy moved into a new phase this week when the city launched an online community feedback questionnaire.
The short, five-question survey is available now at EngageAurora.org/HousingStrategyUpdate. It will remain open through Sept. 15. All community members who have opinions they want to share about the city’s housing challenges, opportunities and what the city’s housing priorities should be are encouraged to complete the questionnaire.
The Aurora Housing Strategy was first completed in 2020. Policy recommendations included in that document have had real impacts on the city. Examples include the city buying three properties for land banking purposes, a recommended strategy to make more land available for the city’s housing needs. Affordable housing projects are now being developed on two of those three sites.
The city also provided gap financing to projects that have delivered 1,625 units of high-quality affordable housing in the five years after the 2020 strategy was published, delivering on the No. 1 goal outlined in that document.

Residents invited to Aurora Housing Strategy feedback session as city prepares to update plan
Aurora residents are invited to participate in a series of housing strategy community feedback sessions over the coming weeks to help identify current and future housing needs throughout the city.
Beginning July 22, the city of Aurora will host six public meetings to gather community input as city housing officials prepare to update the Aurora Housing Strategy. Updating this strategy will help identify Aurora's housing priorities and opportunities and guide leaders in the years ahead as they work to ensure the city has diverse housing options that support all residents.
”Aurora residents know better than anyone what the housing needs and challenges are in their neighborhoods,” Aurora Housing and Community Development Manager Sarah Pulliam said. “We encourage all residents take part in this community dialogue. Their voices will help shape Aurora's housing future.”
The meeting calendar is below. Each City Council ward will host a session. Residents are encouraged to attend the meeting in their ward, but they are welcome to participate in any session that fits their schedule.

Following the in-person community feedback sessions, residents will have an additional opportunity to provide input through the Engage Aurora website from Sept. 1 through Sept. 15.
These meetings will provide residents with the opportunity to learn more about how the city assesses and prioritizes its housing needs, share their experiences and observations with city staff members and suggest ideas that may help guide future housing planning efforts.
Aurora is the third largest city in Colorado with more than 414,000 residents, up from 325,000 people in 2010. As of 2017, the city’s housing challenges included an estimated shortage of 7,500 units of housing for very low-income households. Current estimates indicate that number has increased to more than 12,000 units in 2026, highlighting the city’s challenges.
