Empowering the Next Generation of Aurora Civic Leaders

About the Program

Are you a high school student interested in leadership, community involvement or learning how your city works?

The city of Aurora Youth Civic Engagement Academy is an interactive program designed to educate, inspire and empower the next generation of civic leaders.

Participants will connect with city leaders, explore local government and public service careers, participate in hands-on activities, and share their perspectives on issues affecting the Aurora community.

The academy encourages students to discover how they can become more civically engaged and make a meaningful difference in their community.

Program Details

• Dates: Jan. 23, Jan. 30, Feb. 6 and Feb. 13
• Days: Saturdays
• Time: 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
• Locations: To be announced
• Audience: High school students
• Cohort size: About 20 to 30 students

What Will You Learn?

The academy will feature interactive discussions, hands-on activities and opportunities to connect with city staff and community leaders.

Curriculum Topics

• City Government and Leadership: Explore City Council, city management and how local government operates.
• Community Services and Challenges: Learn how Aurora addresses community needs through its programs and services.
• Public Safety and Emergency Services: Discover the roles of police, fire rescue and emergency response.
• Civic Leadership and Responsibilities: Explore how residents can participate in local decision-making.
• Career Exploration: Learn about career pathways in local government and public service.
• Volunteerism and Community Engagement: Discover opportunities to make a positive impact in Aurora.

Who Should Apply?

We encourage applications from high school students who:

• Are interested in leadership, government or community involvement.
• Want to learn more about Aurora and the services available to residents.
• Enjoy sharing ideas and participating in interactive activities.
• Are curious about careers in public service.
• Want to make a difference in their community.
• Can participate in all four Saturday sessions.

No previous leadership experience or specific academic achievement is required to express interest. Final eligibility and selection criteria are subject to program approval.
