Announcing High School Internships in Historic Preservation at the Aurora History Museum - SUMMER 2025
The purpose of the AHMHS internship is to provide financial support to a local high school student for research or projects related to Aurora’s history and/or cultural diversity. Applicants must currently be a high school student and able to consistently show up in person at the Aurora History Museum or Historic Sites Office throughout the internship. This internship is designed to provide hands-on research and project experience to a local high school student interested in history, historic preservation or closely related field.
The total monetary award is $1,000 and the student should expect to put in 75-100 hours, documented with the Historic Preservation staff. The awarded amount will be paid at the end of the internship when the Historic Preservation Specialist reviews the completed work to assure that the student completed the internship. Funding is graciously provided by the Aurora Historical Society.

Interviews: Between May 14 and May 20, 2025

Internship: June 2, through July 31, 2025
Review Process
The interview team will use a scoring rubric where all the applicants are asked the same questions. The student shall be notified by phone on the Award Announcement Date listed in at the beginning of the application form.
Please note: The student and parent/guardian will be required to sign a form committing to the internship in the time frame allotted.
Deliverables
The intern will need to submit a brief report of information uncovered during research, provide photos taken or other items depending on the nature of the project. Intern will also be required to give a brief presentation to the Aurora Historical Society, the funding entity, to share what they learned and how it benefited them.
