Who we are

Water Supply and Demand Division of the Aurora Water Department. This division has two sides: Supply is the Water Resources Team and Demand is the Conservation Team. These two sides of water work hand in hand to ensure that every drop of water entering the city is used efficiently and wisely.

Water Resources manages agricultural programs in two of the basins associated with Aurora’s water rights: the Arkansas River and the South Platte River.  These are managed by offices in two locations: the Rocky Ford office, where our Arkansas River interests are managed, and the Aurora office, where our South Platte River interests are managed.

Growing with intention

This year, Alexandra Davis, Assistant General Manager of Water Supply and Demand, presented Aurora City Council with a vital topic for the water community: Growth with Intention. As Aurora plans for nearly 40% population growth over the next 20 years, she continues to guide City Council on the water limitations that should shape that growth and the importance of balancing supply. A significant measure was the Aurora City Council agreeing to reduce its Planning Area Boundary, resulting in a long-term decline in demand of up to 10,000 acre-feet. Aurora recognizes agriculture as a critical partner. For over two decades, the city has implemented industry-leading conservation efforts, reducing reliance on agricultural water to maximize existing supplies. With a focus on water as a limited, shared resource, Aurora remains committed to supporting agriculture and being a responsible steward while growing with intention.
